Hawkins didn't crack open and the cops cleared Eddie but Jason (still alive) isn't ready to believe that Eddie isn't the devil's vessel. He and his fellow religious fanatics kidnap Eddie and drag him into thee woods for an inquisition. the sight of Eddie shaking from the cold, tied up, writhing and begging stirs something in Jason.
