Canon Divergence, Max and Billy in Season One, Billy gets taken

The Hargrove/Mayfield family moves to Hawkins a year early, so the Party has already started trying to get Max to join them when the events of season one start happening, and Max gets to be friends with Eleve from the very beginning. Meanwhile, Billy gets taken by the demogorbon the same night as Will does. No one bothers looking for Billy the way that the Byers family and the Party are looking for Will, because most people figure Billy ran back to California and good riddance. When Max finds out Billy is in the Upside Down like Will, she had mixed feelings about trying to get him back.

It's up to the author whether Billy helps Will survive in the Upside Down due to being slightly more willing to drop the toxic masculinity when there aren't any other witnesses or whether he goes "Every man for himself." It's also up to the author whether or not Billy has sex with a demogorgon.

Bonus points if Billy getting taken means that Barb survives, either by her never getting taken or by Billy preventing her death once she's in the Upside Down.

Scott Clarke/Demogorgon

Mr. Clarke encounters a demogorgon and, lucky for him, that it is well fed enough that it isn't interested in killing him and instead has other urges it wants to satisfy. Scott gets to live his secret dream of fucking a monster both for his own gratification and for science, and a surprisingly good time is had by all (except for whoever walks in on him mid act and is traumatized for life by the sight of it). In a world with daemons (external representations of a person's soul which take the form of animals, changing throughout childhood until settling into a final form), it turns out whenever gates to the Upside Down are open, anyone with an unsettled daemon nearby has the possibility of their daemon taking the form of creatures from the Upside Down.

Steve Harrington learns this the hard way. For the past several years he and his daemon had been pretending that his daemon settled to avoid the stigma of reaching his mid/late teens without having managed to settle yet. He and his daemon picked one form for his daemon to always wear while out in public (maybe it's something like an ocelot or some fancy breed of hunting dog. Whatever it is, it's something that people see as being a little bit exotic and cool but mostly innocuous) and only experimented trying to find an actual permanent form while safely out of anyone's sight. Then, in the heat of the moment of his first encounter with the demogorgon, Steve's daemon instinctively shifts out of its fake-settled form to take on a shape more useful for fighting such a foe and ends up as a demodog.

At first, Steve considers this slip up to be only a minor concern compared to finding out that monsters are real, because Steve thinks Nancy and Jonathan will be willing to keep his secret after what the three of them have just gone through together. Then the true severity of the situation begins to dawn on him as he realizes that his daemon can't shift back to its usual fake-settled form due to having finally settled for real.

Now he is going to have to face the world with a demodog shaped daemon (which he doesn't yet know is going to grow up into a demogorgon as he finishes maturing from a teenager into a full adult) instead of the facade he was used to having his daemon present to the world. Needless to say, everyone, both Hawkins locals and the various shadowy organizations affiliated with Hawkins National Laboratory, all flip their shit and nothing is going to be the same for Steve ever again.

Karen/Heather, community pool flirting

An AU where Heather gives Karen the same speech about breast strokes and hotel pools that Billy did. Heather looks as good in her bathing suit as Billy did, and Mrs Wheeler is thirsty. Up to you if this ends with Karen not showing up and Heather getting snared by One rather than Billy, or if Karen owes it to her repressed lesbian tendencies to go down on a hot and willing 18 year old.

Little does Steve know that X is basically exactly Robin, the queer best friend. Eddie is very much not taken, and wished Steve liked him.
