Steve and Nancy find out first. Their first on screen date is a few weeks into their relationship canonically, maybe at one of the other parties she gets a nosebleed and he helps. It leads to misunderstandings when Jonathan and Nancy cut each other to bait the demogorgon, and they bloodstain each other. Steve and Jonathan attempt to bloodstain, but it doesn’t work, making things awkward and Nancy feels like she has to choose and s2 events go about the same.

So it's been a few years and the Upside Down (USD) keeps coming back. The party is getting ready to graduate high school and they just want it to be over. Will has realized the truth of things - the USD remains connected to the world because of him. He can end the USD's incursion on Hawkins and humanity itself with his death.

He loves his friends and family and wants to free them, so he will sacrifice himself. He has been living on borrowed time since the night of Nov 6 1983 anyway.

He tells Mike, the most important person in the world first and wants his support in telling the party. Mike, naturally, is against this, but knows he can't talk Will out of it. Will is the cleric, being a martyr is his nature.

Mike comes up with a plan. 1) Steal Hopper's handcuffs 2) Somehow cuff Will to the passenger seat of his car 3) Profit????

Here begins the road trip where there is no real goal other than to get as far as Hawkins as possible and convince Will that his life is worth living. But how does Mike keep Will under his control? A road trip with just him and Mike is the dream, isn't it? Plus Will finds he kind of likes the handcuffs when Mike is the one doing it!

Story should explore themes of coming of age, friendship, love, suicide/martyrdom, and the question of why we are alive at all! As this is a kink meme I am expecting large amounts of car and hotel sex during this road trip, but most importantly, a slow-burn.

Bonus if Will creates increasingly odd scenarios to make Mike handcuff him so he doesn't run off / suicide.
Bonus+ if Will and Mike call Hawkins back on pay phones on their road trip and have to explain their adventures.

Set sometime in the future (long enough for Eddie to have gone and gotten a medical degree), in a universe where Eddie wasn't involved in the Upside Down business.
